<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why I Love Sweet Potatoes:</h2>



<p>I love to bake with sweet potatoes ( I have about 50 sweet potato recipes on my blog&#8230;) because they are so versatile. Whenever you have some extras sitting around the kitchen, there&#8217;s so many options. Plus they&#8217;re really inexpensive making the recipe more affordable. Also they&#8217;re packed with vitamins and nutrients. </p>



<p>I have a problem of eating too many sweet potatoes, the palms of my hands sometimes turn orange because of all the beta carotene in them haha. That&#8217;s the only downside of being sweet potato obsessed. If you look at Eli&#8217;s hands compared to mine, it looks like I had a bad turn at putting on self tanner. Carrots can also do this to you too. It&#8217;s not really a bad thing, just a funny thing that can happen. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Topping Ideas: </h2>



<p>The only point of making a bread is for the toppings, right? The star of the show is always what you choose to top it with! I went with grass fed butter here but the options are limitless. You could: add some nut butter, add some banana, honey, warmed fruit- blueberries would be delicious, or some cinnamon and coconut sugar. I used some leftovers from this bread with a caramelized bananas- absolutely amazing! </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Baking Tips: </h2>



<p>Anyone else hate when they pour batter into a pan lined with parchment paper and it folds up all weird? Then your bread ends up a weird shape or you&#8217;re struggling to smooth it back out. I like to clip the parchment paper to the sides of the pan, pour the batter in, smooth the batter out, and then remove the clips before baking. It makes the process way smoother and an easier way to do things! </p>

<li id="instruction-step-3">Then add in: sweet potatoes (cooked, peeled, mashed) + almond flour + coconut flour and mix together.</li>

<li id="instruction-step-5">Mix together well with a hand mixer or immersion blender.</li>
<li id="instruction-step-6">Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and add the batter to the pan.</li>
<li id="instruction-step-7">Smooth it out with a spatula so it&#8217;s even across the top.</li>

<li id="instruction-step-9">I topped mine with a little organic butter.</li>

<p>The key to making these sweet potato buns is picking a sweet potato that is pretty wide. A skinny one won&#8217;t work as well because when you cut it into circles it won&#8217;t be as similar to a bun. So pick a wide sweet potato, then when you slice it make sure you slice it pretty big! Too thin and it won&#8217;t hold the burger.&nbsp;</p>



<p>For the burgers, I&#8217;ve been really focusing on high quality meats lately. I recently got a Butcher Box subscription and it seriously is a game changer! <p>I used their grass fed ground beef, formed burgers with adding some paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and chili powder. Cooked them in my cast iron grill which is such an easy way to grill burgers inside. Just make sure you have the fan above the oven on haha.&nbsp;</p>



<p>I don&#8217;t cook with red meat too often (<a href="https://choosingbalance.com/taco-stuffed-sweet-potatoes/">here </a>I made taco stuffed sweet potatoes and <a href="https://choosingbalance.com/paleo-beef-tacos/">here</a> are my paleo tacos) but it&#8217;s becoming an essential in my diet to get my iron levels up! Burgers are such a delicious way to eat them. And these burgers only take 10 minutes to cook- how can you go wrong with a quick easy meal?!&nbsp;</p>

<li id="instruction-step-2">Slice the sweet potatoes into thick slices.</li>
<li id="instruction-step-3">Add to a pan sprayed with nonstick spray</li>
<li id="instruction-step-4">Place the sweet potatoes on the pan, add the pan to the bottom shelf so they don&#8217;t burn.</li>
<li id="instruction-step-5">Let cook for 10 minutes</li>

<p>I know it&#8217;s no secret around here that I am sweet potato obsessed. Can you blame me?! First off- they taste amazing. Perfect balance between sweet and savory. Second- you can use them in sooooo many different ways! Just a few of my many sweet potato recipes- <a href="https://choosingbalance.com/sweet-potato-pancakes/">Sweet Potato Pancakes,</a>&nbsp;<a href="https://choosingbalance.com/taco-stuffed-sweet-potatoes/">Taco Stuffed Sweet Potatoes</a>, <a href="https://choosingbalance.com/paleo-sweet-potato-waffle/">Paleo Sweet Potato Waffles</a>, and <a href="https://choosingbalance.com/shrimp-stuffed-sweet-potatoes/">Shrimp Stuffed Sweet Potatoe</a></p>



<p>I buy a big bag of sweet potatoes every week at Aldi and then try to use them in as many different recipes as I can! They are only $1.99 or $2.99 depending on the time of year for a bag of between 6-8 sweet potatoes. Seriously you can&#8217;t beat that price!</p>



<p>Okay enough about sweet potatoes, let&#8217;s get to the recipe. These spicy sweet potato fries aren&#8217;t too spicy but rather just have a light spice to them. If you want more spice- add more chili powder! The key to getting these nice and crispy is to not skimp on the oil. I use avocado oil because it can be cooked at a higher heat without breaking down!</p>

<p>I coated my sweet potatoes in the avocado oil then in a separate bowl combined the spices and mixed together. Once the spices were combined, I added them to my sweet potatoes. Ready to go in the oven for 20 minutes!&nbsp;</p>



<p>I paired the fries with organic salsa from Aldi and mashed avocado with red pepper flakes.&nbsp;</p>

<li id="instruction-step-5">Spray a pan with non stick spray and add the fries to the pan</li>

<li id="instruction-step-7">Broil at the end for 2-3 minutes to get crispy (optional)</li>

<p>Yet another sweet potato recipe&#8230; but I promise these 4 ingredient sweet potato pancakes are going to be your new favorite way use sweet potatoes!</p>



<p>I know I know I know you probably think I&#8217;m a crazy person for the amount of sweet potatoes I eat haha. But seriously they are one of the easiest ways to get paleo, gluten free recipes. AND they&#8217;re inexpensive.</p>

<p>I baked my sweet potatoes the night before to save time in the morning. Seriously one of the best ways to save a little time! You don&#8217;t even have to make a recipe with them- just eat a baked sweet potato along with an egg and avocado. If you are looking for an easy recipe though, this is the recipe for you!</p>



<p>Also, if you don&#8217;t have a sweet potato prepped- you can just toss it in the microwave for 3-4 minutes. Make sure you take a fork and poke holes in it though.</p>

<p>I took my sweet potatoes ( I used 3 small ones), peeled them, then mashed them with a fork. It ended up being 1 1/2 cups. Added that into my blender with all the other ingredients! The secret to making this recipe into a batter is blending it- mixing it by hand doesn&#8217;t get it smooth enough.. or maybe I&#8217;m not strong enough haha.</p>

<p>Then I sprayed my cast iron skillet with a little non stick spray ( I use Trader Joe&#8217;s coconut oil spray typically) and cooked over low medium heat. I used a spoon and just used about 2 spoonfuls per pancake.</p>

<p>The recipe made 6 1/2 little mini pancakes! I&#8217;m not a nutritionist so I&#8217;ll never personally recommend serving sizes- eat what makes you feel good!</p>

<p>I love savory pancakes so that&#8217;s how I ate mine- with a crispy fried egg + avocado. The best way to do savory pancakes! Saving the leftovers in a container in the fridge for later. They&#8217;d probably keep 4 days in the fridge but I know mine will be gone before then haha.</p>
