Welcome To My Website + My Journey With Healthy Eating!

Ahhh welcome to my brand new WEBSITE!

Ahh I can’t believe I am writing my first blog post! Like what even is life?! First off, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has followed me on Instagram and supported me day after day. For my first post, I wanted to share the story behind starting my food account and a little into my journey with healthy eating.

I know eating healthy is something that so many people want to do but feel like is unattainable. For many different reasons; it’s too expensive, it’s too complicated, you don’t know where to start, you can’t imagine life without this certain food. I’ve been there, I’ve been in that miserable spot of just feeling utterly hopeless, lost, and confused as to why it seems other people can do it but you can’t.

So a rewind to four years ago when I started my freshman year of college. I was the PICKIEST eater growing up, a parent’s worst nightmare haha. Think, only peanut butter sandwiches, chicken tenders NOT nuggets haha, grilled cheese, and a couple other limited choices. I ate this way for about 18 years of my life. Junk food, fried food, and processed foods galore. When I got to college, I was nervous about having to eat dining hall food but luckily survived on pizza, bagels, and chicken fingers for the first year. I was never that slim girl growing up but I was never overweight- just pretty average. After my freshman year, I put on the stereotypical freshman pounds and although I’m not saying I was ever overweight, I just did not feel my best.

My sophomore year, things continued pretty much the same way but I began to branch out and eat different foods. I started growing up a little bit, not being so dang stubborn, and actually trying food. Still though, I wasn’t eating many vegetables or fruits or anything remotely healthy. Enter New Years that year where I did again a stereotypical thing and made that New Years resolution to lose weight. *insert eye roll emoji here* Did I care about feeling good and being healthy to live my best life? Honestly, no I just wanted to be ‘skinnier’.

RESTRICTION RULED MY LIFE

So, I cut out everything I deemed ‘bad’. No bread, barely any carbs, not much protein because it was too ‘fatty’, no oil, no processed food, no dairy, and I can’t even remember what else was restricted but you get the point. For the next year or so, I started losing weight and spiraled into some of the most unhappy moments in my life.

STARTING ‘CHOOSING BALANCE’

Fast forward a little over a year to the end of February 2017, the spring semester of my junior year. I felt so alone in trying to figure out how to be healthy but also be happy and live my life. So at like 11pm on a random night, I started Choosing Balance. I never had that many intentions behind it, I was just so desperate to find a way to be happier. Not to make this post too religious, but I had been praying to God for months on end in my pray journal to help me with this food thing. I truly believe he led me to start this account. It started as a way to help myself and it’s evolved into hopefully helping others.

BEING HEALTHY AND HAPPY IS POSSIBLE

Overall, my intention behind it is to show people that it is possible to be healthy. You don’t have to live in a big city, to have all these fancy ingredients, or to spend hours a day on it. There isn’t a certain diet everyone has to follow and/or get rid of all the foods you love. You don’t have to restrict and think about the food you’re craving all the time. You aren’t perfect, your diet won’t be perfect, and the sooner we all accept this- the happier we’ll be. You are worth taking time to explore being healthier though. Be kind to yourself, be kind to others, and together let’s make this world a happier, healthier better place.

Thankful for everything you guys do for me.

Sending love your way always,

Pey
