Salmon + Gut Health Tips
If you’ve looked at any of my Instagram posts, you know I love salmon. It only takes 6 minutes to make a crispy piece of salmon and it is packed with Omega 3s and healthy fats. It keeps me full for a long time and I feel satisfied after eating it. And it pairs well with a lot of different foods so you can switch it up for a lot of variety.
Another thing I’m loving is focusing on my gut health. I’m going to share some of the things I do/try to do to have a healthier gut. I don’t always get it perfect (does anyone?!) but practice makes perfect, right?!
If you keep up with health news, you might have seen that new studies keep coming out about the power our guts have over our overall health. Now, I’m not a nutritionist or dietitian so this is all just my personal research. But seriously- from what I’ve seen the power of the gut is CRAZY. It is linked to not only our digestion but our mood, anxiety, weight, immune health, hunger cravings, and so much more.
Breaking down 4 easy tips that I’ve found personally help improve my gut health 🙂
1: Drink apple cider vinegar with warm lemon water first thing in the morning.
I’ll make a tall glass of water with 1/2 lemon, 2-3 capfuls of apple cider vinegar (make sure it says it’s ‘with the mother’), sprinkle of cinnamon. It feels good to get water in first thing after going 8 hours without any! Also I think ACV is so good for my digestion/gut health. Always do your own research but it’s worked for me!
2) Try to mindfully chew your food
This might sound a little weird but it seriously helps me in so many ways! Not only with my gut health, chewing slower helps break up your food more so it’s easier to digest, but also with my eating habits in general. If I’m mindfully eating and appreciating each bite of food, I don’t eat as fast and I tend not to overeat as much. It’s a win win all around!
It can be hard to do but just try to take a minute when you start eating to think about mindfully eating. Starting this way helps you so much!
3) Take a probiotic
Why I take a probiotic: the list goes on! I’ve been incorporating a probiotic into my diet consistently for the past month and 1/2 and I love it. I had taken it over the summer but you know how sometimes you fall out of a habit. This is one I definitely want to stick with though because probiotics are an essential to me for gut health.
A probiotic works to help reset you gut’s balance, in simple terms. It helps balance the good bacteria and bad bacteria in your gut. The Silver Fern probiotic helps aid your gut in achieving that balance. It’s the only DNA verified probiotic, it’s not not full of filler, and actually survives the journey to your gut. So many brands of probiotics don’t even make it to your gut so you’re wasting your money. It’s also verified pharmaceutical grade so you know you’re getting your money’s worth.
It’s a simple and easy way to make a big impact in your gut health.
4) Try to minimize your added sugar
This is a tip you probably see over and over for many different health related topics. That’s because sugar really does impact our bodies in a lot of ways, including our gut. Trying to eat less added sugar (I try to do this but also you can treat yourself sometimes!) and more natural sugar will also do so many good things for your gut : )
