Recipe Breakdown:
Most smoothie recipes are pretty straight forward and this one is no exception! All you really need to do is throw all of these ingredients in a blender and blend it up. I’ll run through some tips though to make sure it turns out well.
You want to chop your banana into small coins before freezing. You won’t be able to cut it easily after it’s frozen and it’s pretty tough to blend a full frozen banana. So just chop it, toss it in a baggie, and freeze for smoothies!
You can add some veggies into this recipe if you like sneaking them into a smoothie. Toss 1/2 cup of spinach or cooked cauliflower rice. Both are great options and don’t really change the flavor.
Finally, feel free to add more ice or milk at the end to get your banana cookie dough smoothie to the perfect texture!
Why Probiotics are Important:
I’ve mentioned probiotics in this post and wanted to provide some insight on why I believe they’re important. I love eating foods that are rich in probiotics, like this Lifeway Kefir is. Probiotics are microorganisms that help improve our gut health. I’ll leave the science explanation to the experts but basically when you eat foods high in probiotics, you’re helping get that good bacteria in your gut. Gut health is so essential to overall health. It seems like every week there’s a new study coming out about gut health being connected to something. Keeping your gut healthy will help your digestion, your immune system, and seriously so many other things that are being discovered constantly!
How I Add Probiotics Into My Diet:
You can get probiotics in a variety of forms but an easy way is adding them into your diet. I love adding Lifeway Kefir into smoothies, oatmeal, baked goods because it’s full of protein + full of probiotics. You can find it here. It’s 99% lactose-free, gluten-free, and made with all natural, non-GMO ingredients. A serving has 11 grams of protein + it has 12 live strands of probiotics. They have a ton of delicious flavors but I think the plain one because it doesn’t have any added sugar.
Topping Ideas:
I added a sprinkle of gluten free chocolate granola on top of my smoothie but a little more nut butter on top would be amazing too! Or you can never go wrong with some more chocolate chips haha.
