October Book Review
My October Book Review is here! I post my book reviews in my Instagram stories but I thought it would be fun to start doing a monthly round up on my website. That way I can really get into my thoughts and it’s searchable! So here we go.
This month I read 6 books but 3 of those books are 700+ pages so, just know I did nothing in the evenings this month besides read haha. It’s so fun to be fully immersed in a different world though. I’m normally not a fantasy reader so the fact I read 5 fantasy books in one month is wild! I haven’t read a fantasy series since the Twilight books back in high school. If you were a fan of Twilight, I think you’d enjoy the series I read!
Book 1: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
⅘ stars. This was a beautifully written book and just a lovely book to read. I now want to move to a cherry orchard in Michigan to raise Palmer. This book starts with a mother telling her grown daughters the story of a young summer love, flashing back and forth between that summer and now. This wasn’t the most exciting book I’ve ever read but it was just a cozy read.
If you’re interested in stories about acting and Hollywood, it gives an interesting insight into some of the behind the scenes of what that world is like. But that doesn’t take over the book, the real story is of 3 daughters learning there is more to their mother than they thought.
Book 2: A Court of Thorns and Roses
⅘ stars I have seen this book everywhere for years but I wasn’t that interested in it because I’ve never been a big fantasy reader. I had started and stopped it 15-20% of the way through 2 times before giving it one last shot this month. The beginning is definitely a little slow in my opinion but the last 25% of it was so good, it got me hooked on the rest of the series. I would recommend it if you’re looking for a book series to transport you into a different world. I would also say it’s a beginner fantasy book, it’s not complex or hard to follow.
Book 3: A Court of Mist and Fury
5/5 stars Now this book made reading the first book in the series so worth it. I normally would never recommend reading one book just so you can read another but here I am haha. This book was addicting, I couldn’t put it down. I won’t go into too much detail because if you haven’t read the first book, you won’t understand anything about the second book.
Book 4: A Court of Wings and Ruin
Another 5 star read for me! After a summer of disappointing books, it felt so good to get wrapped up into this series of books. They can be a little repetitive at times but I really enjoyed them.
Book 5: A Court of Frost and Starlight
⅗ stars. This one is a novella and could probably be skipped entirely in the series. Not much happened in this book but it was a short and quick read.
Book 6: A Court of Silver Flames
5/5 stars. This one is spicyyy. The other books in the series have a few spicy scenes here and there but this one was full of them. This book follows different characters than the previous books in the series which makes me excited for future books and hopefully more characters getting their chance to shine!
Overall it was a great month of reading and I’m so happy I pushed through the first book because I have been loving the series!
